WHY

I have a confession to make: I find the classic children’s book ‘We’re Going On a Bear Hunt’ by Michael Rosen really grating. Splish, Splash, Splish, Splash, we’re not scared, no but I’m tired of reading this book! So when my friend invited me to the new West End production live at the Lyric Theatre, I was reluctant. I was also concerned that as it is aimed at ages three and above, my two-year-old might not sit for the whole 55 minutes – with nothing else on, I hesitantly agreed. And I am so glad I did. Set to music by Benji Bower the repetitive words really come to life (so much so we picked up a copy of the CD after that has become a favourite in the car). The production is a wonderfully sensory experience – Ursula was entranced. There were bright colours, splashing water, snow storms and thick oozy mud. The enthusiastic cast had great interaction with the audience and the comedy bear at the end was brilliant. I couldn’t recommend it more – it is a must-see with little ones this summer.
